Discovered this CUBAN LIFE RAFT (escape vehicle) near Cape Sabal down in the Glades. It looks like it seated at least six people. I inquired with the rangers at Everglade City and they said it washed up empty. This usually means the occupants died in a major harsh way at sea. Probably a family. It didn't phase me at the time, however, after spending christmas with my family and loving friends, the image haunts me. The thought of placing my family in a home made raft made of rebar and a stretched pool liner, heading 100 miles north through the straits of Florida, to a forein country that offers a chance of hope, then to watch my family perish one by one at sea.
